Physical appearance: Grey hair, height on the taller end of average, blue eyes, strong and athletic build, but mobile rather than musclebound. He has a bit of arthritis in his knees and left hand, but generally moves with confidence and grace.

General information: Rollick is a fighter by profession, and is a particularly gifted swordsman. He has also mastered the knowledge of when force is and isn’t appropriate, however, and will attempt to seek a peaceful solution to conflicts whenever possible. He is not prone to anger-- in fact he is quite even-tempered-- and he rarely starts fights, though he is quite competent at finishing them. Rollick is understanding and patient, and will show mercy even to enemies when he can.

He is both physically and emotionally strong. He is extremely loyal and devoted, and will be quite brave and self-sacrificing when the situation requires it, though he tries not to invite trouble when the are better options. His nature is not one for regret or second-guessing, and he does not obsess about past problems, so he is generally able to be philosophical and good-natured about bad things that happen to him.

Rollick is of average intelligence, but is not particularly educated on subjects other than combat. He makes up for this with a great deal of wisdom and experience, but his lack of general education is something he is rather self-conscious about, and it makes him somewhat shy in conversations with people he doesn’t know well. He is quite friendly, but not talkative when he first meets someone. He also tends to defer to others even when he has better ideas, simply because he assumes they are smarter than he is and that they know what they're doing.

This self-consciousness stems from his childhood and young adulthood, growing up with a father who valued intellectual rather than martial pursuits. He wanted his sons to become clerics; Rollick simply had no aptitude for scholastic learning and didn't take to the course of study. Instead, he showed great talent for combat and physical prowess. Instead of recognizing a different form of intelligence, his father constantly called him "stupid."

The one redeeming factor in Rollick's early years was his stepmother, who was affectionate and encouraging, and with whom he remained close until her death. When she passed away, there was nothing to tie him to his father's house, and he left to join the army of the local ruler as soon as he came of age.

Rollick continued to demonstrate exceptional talent in the army, and he could have advanced to a high position, but his scruples held him back. This particular army was undisciplined and largely unsupervised, and took a heavy toll on the civilian populations of the lands they occupied. Rollick considered their actions criminal and dutifully reported them to their superiors, only to be met with indifference or instructed to stop causing dissension in the ranks.

He became increasingly disillusioned, particularly as he came to realize that he fought for nothing more than the cause of a hereditary claim, and the ruler on whose behalf he battled was no better than the alternatives. The resulting deaths appeared to him to be a complete waste, in service only of vanity.

When he had served out the term of his commission, he did not re-enlist, but struck out on his own, fighting as a lone adventurer to protect the innocent where he could. His efforts caught the attention of a group known as The Council, who initiated him into their ranks and put his life on a collision course with Uluki's. (See Uluki's character profile for details.) Finally, his path had led him to a place where he was content and at peace.

In recent years, Rollick has become concerned about the fact he isn't as young as he used to be, and in his profession that can be a serious liability. He is aware he doesn't move as quickly and easily or have the endurance he did as a younger man. He stays in good shape and is blessed with unusually good health (and having a healer wife doesn't hurt, either,) so despite being older than many other fighters he can generally hold his own, and he picks his battles. Still, this remains a worry for him, and for those who care about him.

Rollick is without any magical ability at all, but generally feels positive about magic users and comfortable around them.

He is very, very loyal to his wife, and is quite affectionate toward her. Rollick would do anything necessary to protect his family and friends, including sacrifice his own life. He is a kind, decent man, and a good husband.
